one of the hardest chapters of our lives.

Brillo Beans Roasting Co. isn’t just a coffee company.

 It’s a family story.

 It’s a story about a son who fought cancer, a grandfather whose memory lives on through a name, parents who stood beside their son, and a dream that eventually became something bigger than anyone could have imagined.

 A Dream Born During the Hardest Days

In 2018, our family was facing something no family ever wants to hear, Gabe was diagnosed with large B-cell lymphoma. Life changed almost overnight. The things we once worried about didn’t seem nearly as important anymore. Our focus became Gabe—his treatments, his health, his strength, and simply getting through one day at a time.

But during that difficult time, Gabe had an idea.

Coffee.

 He dreamed about starting his own coffee company.

At first, it was simply an idea—something to think about, something to look forward to, something that belonged to the future. And that mattered. Because when you’re fighting something as serious as cancer, having something to dream about beyond the illness can give you another reason to look forward.

Gabe’s dream became a reminder that cancer wasn’t going to define his entire story.

 There was still a future to look forward to.

 And his mom and dad believed in that future right along with him.

First Came the Fight

Before there could be a coffee company, there was a much more important battle to win.

Gabe had to get healthy.

 His family stood beside him through the uncertainty, the treatments, the difficult days, and everything that comes with watching someone you love fight a serious illness.

 Eventually, the day came that every parent hopes and prays for.

 Gabe became cancer-free.

The battle had changed our family forever.

 But it didn’t take away the dream.

 It gave the dream new meaning.

 A few years later, that idea Gabe had while fighting cancer would finally become reality.

Brillo: A Name That Keeps a Legacy Alive

 There is another important part of our story.

The name Brillo comes from Scott’s dad.

His nickname was Brillo.

He was a father and grandfather and an important part of our family.

Sadly, he passed away unexpectedly in November 2017, just months before Gabe’s cancer diagnosis.

 He never got to see Gabe fight cancer.

 He never got to see Gabe become cancer-free.

 He never got to see the coffee company.

 He never got to hold a bag of Brillo Beans in his hands.

But his name could live on.

When it came time to name Gabe’s coffee company, using the name Brillo felt right.

 It connected the past with the future.

A grandfather’s nickname became part of a grandson’s dream. And today, every time we see the name Brillo Beans, we’re reminded that the people we love never truly leave us. Their memories become part of who we are.

 Brillo Beans Roasting Co. Is Born

In 2023, a few years after Gabe became cancer-free, Brillo Beans Roasting Co. officially began.

 What had once been an idea during one of the most difficult periods of Gabe’s life was now becoming a real family business.

Gabe had the idea.

His mom and dad helped him make it happen.

 Together, we learned the coffee business from the ground up.

 We learned about green coffee, roasting, packaging, equipment, pricing, wholesale, customers, shipping, regulations—and all the unexpected challenges that come with building something of your own.

 It hasn’t always been easy.

 We’ve had equipment problems.

 We’ve made mistakes.

 We’ve had frustrating days.

 We’ve had moments when things didn’t go the way we planned.

 But we’ve also had something more important:

 Each other.

 And we’ve celebrated the wins together.

 Every customer.

 Every order.

 Every new coffee.

 Every event.

 Every person who tells us they enjoyed a cup of Brillo Beans.

 Those moments mean more because we know where this journey started.

 Why Helping Families Matters to Us

Our passion for helping children and families dealing with childhood illnesses comes directly from our own experience.

When you’ve watched your child fight cancer, you see things differently.

You understand the fear that families try to hide.

You understand the long days.

You understand the waiting.

You understand how difficult it can be to smile when you’re worried about what tomorrow will bring. And you understand how much a simple act of kindness can mean. That’s why supporting children and families affected by childhood illnesses isn’t just a cause we chose.

We’ve experienced the fear and uncertainty.

We’ve experienced the relief of good news.

We’ve experienced what it means to get a second chance.

And because Gabe was fortunate enough to come through his battle, we want to help bring hope to families who are still walking that road.

And we believe that even small acts can make a difference.

 We may not be able to take away someone’s pain.

 We may not be able to change their circumstances.

 Behind the name is a grandfather.

 Behind the company is a son who dreamed about coffee while fighting cancer.

 And behind our passion is the desire to help other families find hope during difficult times.

 A cup of coffee might seem like a small thing.

 It gives us a reason to sit down.
